Mike Leach’s Fantasy Camp Preview

I’ll admit it. When I first arrived at Texas Tech I didn’t know much about their football team. I grew up with Longhorns on my dad’s side and a bunch of crappy Ivy League schools on my mother’s. However, after my first Tech football game-a thrilling 200 to 175 win over rival New Mexico State Christian Tech-I became more interested in the high-scoring Red Raider offense.

Then, it happened. I was in my dorm room recovering from a hard night drinking with a beer bong of Coors. I flicked on my roommate’s TV to find an strange man talking about the football team. It wasn’t until a reporter yelled “Coach Leach! Coach Leach!” that I realized the true greatness of the Tech football team. This wonderful little man with his strange hobbies and drunken slurs ignited in me a fiery passion for the best thing to do in Lubbock besides going to The Strip and going to strip clubs.

Over these last three years there are times when I’ve wanted to get some pads on and take the field with the team. You can imagine my exhuberance when I went to a website and saw the link for Mike Leach’s Fantasy Football camp. I signed up faster than Jenn Sterger loses clothes on $1 Cosmo night. I made the $1350 enrollment fee the easy way. Filling empty kegs with water and passing it off as Keystone at parties.

A few things have caught my eye since enrollment, though.

  • The eligibility forms were a nice touch, but was the notary stamp necessary?
  • It’s not that hard, but why do I need at least a 2.0 to attend.
  • The $1350 should buy me a nice experience, but I wish Sonny Cumbie would stop poking me on Facebook.
  • I thought I saw defensive coordinator Lyle Setencich at my intermural football game taking notes but he was probably just some rec sports employee.

I’m very excited for the opportunity to rub elbows with my favorite players. So far it’s been quite a personal experience. I saw safety Joe Garcia in the Student Union. I nodded at him and he just stared me down and said, “Sup, rook?”. More updates as they come.
